What is PBS?

Positive Behavior Support (PBS) is a research-based approach to behavior modification that emphasizes proactive strategies to encourage desirable behaviors and reduce problematic ones.

  • PBS seeks to understand the reasons behind behaviors rather than merely addressing the behaviors themselves.

  • This might include changing physical spaces, adjusting schedules, or providing clear expectations.

  • Instead of merely discouraging unwanted actions, PBS aims to teach individuals positive behaviors that serve as functional alternatives.

  • PBS is broken up into 3 tiers universal, targeted and intensive.

PBS PEERR

PBS PEERR is an acronym that represents the core values and guiding principles that we at Nexus Inc. believe are essential to living a meaningful, healthy, and fulfilling life. These values serve as a foundation for personal growth, emotional well-being, positive relationships, and successful participation within the community. By embodying the principles reflected in PBS PEERR, individuals are encouraged to develop the skills, behaviors, and mindsets necessary to maintain a high quality of life, strengthen social connections, and promote greater independence and inclusion in everyday life.

At Nexus Inc., we recognize that true social integration involves more than simply being present in a community—it means feeling valued, respected, supported, and empowered to contribute in meaningful ways. The PBS PEERR framework is designed to help individuals build confidence, improve interpersonal relationships, enhance communication and coping skills, and foster a sense of belonging. Through consistent practice and support, these values can positively influence not only individual success, but also the strength and well-being of the communities in which we live and work

PEERR stands for:

  • P- Present

  • E- Engaged

  • E-Empowered

  • R- Respectful

  • R- Responsible
